Description	:	John "Dean" Flanery was born December 9, 1938 to John R and Helen (Vandevanter) Flanery. He passed away August 9, 2018 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Dean grew up on a grain and livestock farm north of Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1957. He attended Iowa State University and returned to Guthrie Center to begin farming one mile from his childhood family farm. Read More	John "Dean" Flanery was born December 9, 1938 to John R and Helen (Vandevanter) Flanery. He passed away August 9, 2018 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Dean grew up on a grain and livestock farm north of Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1957. He attended Iowa State University and returned to Guthrie Center to begin farming one mile from his childhood family farm. On April 8, 1961 he married Virginia Scott and together they had three children Dennis, Maria and Patrick. He was preceded in death by Virginia, his wife of 45 years, parents John and Helen, and two brothers Richard and Robert. He is survived by his children Dennis (Diane) of Guthrie Center, IA, Maria Martin (Jeff) of Peoria, IL and Patrick (Sharon) of Omaha, NE; one sister, Anna Jean (Paul) Kraemer of Fairfield, IA, and nine grandchildren Malori Conzett (Andrew) of Omaha, NE, Ryan Flanery of West Des Moines, IA, Erin Boyenga (Nate) of West Des Moines IA, Sean Flanery of West Des Moines, IA, Serena Martin of Peoria, IL, Alyssa Martin of Peoria, IL, Maureen Flanery of Omaha, NE and Jack Flanery of Omaha, NE. Visitation will be at Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center, Iowa on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm. Funeral service will be at St Mary's Catholic Church in Guthrie Center, IA on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 10:00am with a burial service following at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St Mary's Catholic Church or the Guthrie County Fair Foundation. Condolences may be mailed to P.O. Box 155 Guthrie Center, IA 50115.
