Description	:	John married Alice O'Hearn on 12 Oct 1882 in Marquette County Michigan where he worked in the mines. Witnesses to their marriage were Guilichmus O'Brien and Maria Walsh. Officiating their marriage was Rev. Thomas J. Atfield. Their first born, Mary Rosella Deegan, was born in Michigamme on 21 Aug 1883 and was baptized 24 Aug 1883 at St. Agnes Church in Michigamme, Marquette Co., Michigan. Her godparents were Guilichmus O'Brien and Maria O'Hearn. The Deegan family, which included John's mother Mary Deegan, moved to Montana in 1885 where John resumed work in the mines near Helena. On 6 Mar 1887 Patrick was born to John and Alice Deegan in Marysville. Patrick was baptized on 17 Mar 1887 by Reverend Aloysius Ragaru at the Cathedral of the Sacred Hearts in Helena. Then, on 10 Feb 1889 another daughter was born to John and Alice of Marysville. Catherine "Katie" was baptized on 26 Feb 1889 by Reverend C.G. Follet at the Cathedral of the Sacred Hearts in Helena. Unfortunately, she lived only 2 years, passing away on 14 Jan 1891. She was buried in the John Deegan Family lot at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery which is no longer a cemetery but a city park; Robinson Park. Again, John and Alice became parents on 28 Jan 1891 when John Emmett was born in Marysville. His arrival was only 2 weeks following the death of his sister Katie. John was baptized by Reverend C.G. Follet on 9 Feb 1891 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Hearts in Helena. After relocating to Bald Butte, John and Alice became parents of their fifth child, George Washington Deegan on 24 Feb 1894 in Bald Butte. He was baptized on 5 Mar 1894 at the Cathedral of Sacred Hearts in Helena by Reverend Victor DeBrabandere. George Washington Deegan died on 31 Mar 1894 at the age of 1 month and 4 days. He is also buried at the old St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, now Robinson Park. John and Alice Deegan's next born, Alice Cecelia Deegan was my grandmother. She was born in Bald Butte on 12 May 1895 and was baptized 3 Jun 1895 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Hearts in Helena by Reverend Francis Van Clarenbeck. The seventh and final child of John and Alice Deegan was Edward Dewey Deegan. He was born in Bald Butte on 29 Apr 1898 and was baptized 5 Jun 1898 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Hearts in Helena by Reverend Joseph Blaere. Just 2 weeks shy of Edward Dewey's first birthday, he lost his life to spinal meningitis on 7 Apr 1899. He, too, is buried at the old St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, now Robinson Park. John Deegan's mother Mary passed away January 1900 at the age of 85. She is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with her grandchildren, Katie, George Washington and Edward Dewey. The Deegan family then moved to Butte and both John and Alice Deegan left the remaining of their children orphaned when they passed away 5 days apart in January 1905. They join their children (as well as John's mother Mrs. Mary Deegan) at Old St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Mary, their first born married Joseph Forewald and they are both buried in Big Timber, Patrick married Margaret Lucas and they are buried in Big Timber as well as their son John R. Deegan. Emmet married Lola Faye Rees and are buried amongst their family in Big Timber as well. Their daughter Alice (my grandmother) married John O'Toole of the Barber area and both are buried in Ryegate's Catholic Cemetery with 2 of their sons, William Joseph O'Toole and John Lawrence O'Toole, my father.
