Mr Fitzgerald farmed in the Beattie area for many years and then retired to work for the Farmers Union Co-op in Beattie and the city of Beattie for several years. He was born June 17, 1911, Beattie, the son of John and Theresa Higgins Fitzgerald. He graduated from Beattie High School in 1929. Other survivors jnclude two sons, Mark Fitzgerald, Meriden, and John Fitzgerald, Salina; two daughters, Romona Gambone, Lawrence, and Mary Ratliff, Beattie; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Monday, September 16, 2002, at St Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie. Burial will be at St Patrick'a Cemetery in Beattie. Mr Fitzgerald will lie in state today at the Landreth-popkess Funeral Home in Axtell, where a rosary will be recited at 7pm. Contributions may be made to the John "Des" Desmond Fitzgerald Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral home. CJ Online/September 15, 2002
