Description	:	Funeral services for John De Vries, 80, who died Monday at the Panska Nursing home where he had been a patient the past year, will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at St. Matthew's Lutheran church in Chatsworth. Pastor Luther A. Meyer will officiate with burial in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home. Mr. De Vries was born in The Netherlands February 28, 1879, and came to this county as a young man, shortly after his marriage to Jennie Fisbaak in Friesland February 28, 1909. Mr. De Vries was born in The Netherlands February 28, 1879, and came to this county as a young man, shortly after his marriage to Jennie Fisbaak in Friesland February 28, 1909. The couple settled south of Hudson where he worked on a farm for Louie Vander Meer. Later he farmed for himself northeast of Hawarden and also in the Ireton and Rock Valley vicinities. They retired to Hawarden in 1940. Mr. De Vries was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Chatsworth in 1958. He and Mrs. De Vries celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in February of this year. He was preceded in death by a son, Lester, who died at the age of two. Survivors include the widow who makes her home with her daughters at Hawarden; six sons, Harry of Hudson, Henry of Fairview, Pete of Turlock, Calif., John of Hawarden, Edward of Fresno, Calif., and Lester of Ireton; two daughters, Mrs. Emil D. Anderson and Mrs. Ed McKee, both of Hawarden; 25 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 3/26/1959
