Sources: Connecticut Town Birth Records, pre-1870-Barbour Collection and Manning Families of New England and Descendants Genealogy) He was the son of Benjamin Hovey 1796-1877 and Fanny Baker Hovey 1798-1890. In 1850 he lived in Windham, Connecticut and worked on his father's farm. (Source 1850 census) on 22 Aug 1862, he enlisted as a private on the Union Side in Company D, 21st Regiment, Connecticut Infantry.
