Would like to transfer this memorial to a family member Orangeville Banner - Thursday, August 12, 1926 - Page 6 - JOHN DUNCAN* John Duncan, a well-known farmer of Black's Corners neighborhood in Amaranth, passed away in Guelph on Sunday at the age of 62 years. Deceased had been ill for the last six weeks, but his death was not expected and the news of his demise came as a severe shock to his neighbors and friends. The late Mr. Duncan was a successful farmer being the owner of 350 acres of land near Black's Corners. Outspoken and positive in his opinions, he was nevertheless a man of sterling honesty, who was held in high esteem ads a neighbor and citizen. He was a member of Black's Corners United church, Progressive in his political leanings and an enthusiastic Orangeman, being a staunch member of Laurel L.O.L. No. 330. He leaves a widow and three sons, John, Clifford and Elwin, to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and a kind, loving father. The funeral, which was under the auspices of Laurel L.O.L. No 320, was held from his late home, lot 20, 7th line, Amaranth, to Shelburne cemetery on Tuesday afternoon and was very largely attended. Rev. L. E. West, of Laurel, and Rev. J. R. Bell, of Toronto, conducted the services at the house and grave. The impressive service of the Orange Order was read by W. Bro. Jackson Hamilton, W. M. of L.O.L. 330, assisted by Bros. W. F. Cooney, W. S. Allen, Percy Bryan and Willie Lanktree. The pallbearers were Messrs. David and W. G. Rintoul, John Johnston, Sam Ritchie, John Hamilton and W. R. Grosskurth. A large number of floral tributes bore mute testimony to the esteem and sorrow of relatives and friends of the departed man. The flower bearers were six nieces, members of the Sawyer and Hammond families.
