Read More	Son of John Harvey Henry and Sallie Mae Treadway ------------ John Ernest Henry, 236 Avonlea Place, Johnson City, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at his residence. He was an Andover, Virginia, native who lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late John Harvey and Sally Mae Treadway Henry. Mr. Henry was a gunner?s mate 2nd class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the U.S.S. Tuscaloosa and the U.S.S. L.S.T. 370 and participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and the Invasion of North Africa. He was a recipient of: the Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal, the American Defense Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Honorable Service Pin. Mr. Henry had attended both Sulphur Springs High School and East Tennessee State College. He was a Methodist. Mr. Henry was retired from Barclay?s American Credit. He was an avid golfer, Atlanta Braves fan, and U.T. fan who more than anything else enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his siblings: Kitz Henry, Saunders Henry and Phyllis Jean Luster. Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Ruth Crowder Henry, of the home; son, Doug Henry, and his wife, Jamie, Johnson City; daughter, Kem H. McKee, and her husband, Tom, Johnson City; two grandchildren, Matt Bolton, Johnson City, Holly Rainey and her husband, Chris, Gray; great-granddaughter, Dru Rainey, Gray; two brothers, Charles and Ray Henry, both of Casey, SC; three sisters, Evelyn Henry, Telford, Iona Aiken, Chesapeake, VA, and Maude Hyder, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews. A service celebrating the life of John Henry will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Paul Seay will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kent Hyder, John Moore, Preston McKee, Scott Jones, Mark Crowder and Jeff Crowder. Following the service family and friends will proceed to Happy Valley Memorial Park for committal services. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 PM Thursday at Morris Baker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950 or Medical Center Hospice, 101 Med Tech Pkwy #100, Johnson City, TN 37604.
