Description	:	Jefferson Herald July 13, 1939, p. 1 Conduct Rites for Scranton Marshal Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Ed Hammar, well known Scranton marshal, at the Methodist church in Scranton. Mrs. Anna Albery, pastor of the Friends church, preached the sermon with Rev. G. A. Toole assisting. Music was furnished by Mrs. R. E. Parry and Miss Lois Easton with Miss Lucille Rutan at the piano. Edgar Hammar, son of David and Elizabeth Hammar, was born near Earlham, Iowa, November 10, 1875, and died at his home in Scranton Friday,' July 7, 1939, aged 63 years, 7 months and 27 days. He was married in 1897 to Sylvia Wright. To this union were born seven children, all of whom survive him. He has lived all his life In Iowa, and the last sixteen years in Scranton. He was born and reared In a Quaker home. He leaves beside his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Goldie Lyons of Coon Rapids, Mrs. Edgar Howk of Litchfield, Minn., Mrs. Warren Penn of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Fred Ellsworth of Scranton; three sons, Chester, Wayne and Walton, all of Scranton; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Dunbar of Callendar, and Mrs. Otto Monthei of Cooper; three brothers, Albert of Worthington, Minn., Joe of Jefferson, and Charles of Linden, and 16 grandchildren. He has been town marshal of Scranton for a number of years and has dealt with offenders with such faithfulness and Justice as to make for himself friends of Its citizens, young and old. He was stricken with heart disease while driving his car in town and in spite of the earnest ministrations of doctor and friends, lived only one hour.
