Description	:	John Edward Neufeld, 88, of Canon City, passed away February 24, 2011. He was born in Henderson, Neb. on June 6, 1922, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Enns) Neufeld. John was a veteran of WWII enlisting on December 8 1941 into the Navy. John saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. John meet Admiral Nimitz on the USS Enterprise, witnessing the surrender of Japan, thus ending his decorated tour in the service. Read More	John Edward Neufeld, 88, of Canon City, passed away February 24, 2011. He was born in Henderson, Neb. on June 6, 1922, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Enns) Neufeld. John was a veteran of WWII enlisting on December 8 1941 into the Navy. John saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. John married the love of his life, Anna Marie Cornelsen in Meade Kansas on January 20, 1946, moving first to McPherson, Kansas followed by a move to Blackwell, Oklahoma. Not liking tornadoes, John moved his growing family to Monte Vista, Colorado. John opened is own shop, working on all makes of automobiles. In 1957, John became ill with the Asian Flu. The flu took its toll on John, causing almost total blindness. With his chosen career now just a dream, John turned to his music where he proudly played both the piano and organ in church services for numerous years. His gift of music was used valley wide in the San Luis Valley for many years. John is survived by his children, Carolyn (Jim) Snook, of Brighton, Linda (John) Leggitt, of Canon City, Danny (Judi) Neufeld, of Hooper, Michael (Kim) Neufeld, of Colorado Springs, stepdaughter, Gloria (Ivan) Davison, of Pueblo West, 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, brother, Arnold Neufeld, of Garden City, Kan, along with numerous extended family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife and mother of his children, Anna Marie (Cornelsen) Neufeld; second wife, Gene (Caneer) Neufeld; infant children, John Lyle, Carol Diane, and Martha Jane Neufeld; great-granddaughter, Madison Paige Scalzo; sister, Martha; brothers, Abram and Isaac. Memorial service will be at 1:30pm on Friday, Mar 4, at the Valley Church of the Nazarene in Monte Vista; with private family inurnment at Home Lake Cemetery.
