Hew as the son of Charles and Mary Ann Wensel, a family of nine children. On February 16, 1913 John was married to Nora Donald. To this union two sons were born; Walter of Promise City, Iowa and Dean of Tanganoxie, Kansas. They were also parents of one adopted daughter Betty May. They spent their married life in Wayne County with the exception of five years in Topeka, Kansas. John was a kind and gentle man. He spoke no ill of anyone and never had an enemy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his adopted daughter Betty and a great granddaughter Ragina Jacobs. Also six brothers; Willie, Charlie, Floyd, Wayne who grew to manhood, Lonnie and Carl who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife Nora, sons Walter and Dean and their wives Collette and Mylinda, seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Also a mother-in-law Ida Donald of Muscatine, one brother Virgil and wife Bessie of Garden Grove and one sister Laura Zimmerman of Shreveport, Louisiana. Services were held on Wednesday, November 17, 1976 at 1:30 p.m. from the Randolph Funeral home in Allerton with the Rev. Norman Keller officiating. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rumley, singers and Mrs. Normal Keller, pianist. The pallbearers were; Leo Halfhill, Wayne Hornocker, James Hook, J.H. Marcusson, Mervin Halfhill, and Howard Cox. Interment was in the Allerton Cemetery.
