Read More	JOHN DOORNINK FUNERAL HERE SAD RITES FOR IOWA CITY RIVER VICTIM HELD FRIDAY Funeral services for John Doornink who was tragically drowned while skating with his sister at Iowa City, were held at the Dr. Will Doornink home in Orange City and at the Central Reformed church in Sioux Center on Friday afternoon, with burial at Sioux Center. Rev. Haverkamp was in charge of the services. The tragedy occured Monday evening when the young people skated into a hole in the river. Both were good swimmers, but in his anxiety to help his sister the young man attempted to remove his skates in the water. He was succesful in this but was carried under the ice by the current, While Miss Emma was able to reach stronger ice which supported her until help reached her. John was not able tot o get out from under the ice, and thus perished in the attempt to help his sister. Both young people were seniors at Iowa University, and made their home since last fall at Iowa City, where their mother, Mrs. John Doornink had moved to be with her children. The sisters and brothers are Mrs. Sam Punt of Maurice, Dr. Wm. Doornink of Orange City, Miss Anna, who is teaching in Oklahoma, Emma, and Elmer, the latter also a student at the university. The joung man was buried beside his brother, James Doornink, who died in camp eight years ago, and in whose memory the Sioux Center Post of the American Legion is named. The many friends sympathize deeply with the family. Mrs. Doornink, Emma and Elmer remained with Dr. and Mrs. Doormink at Orange City until Thursday, when they returned to Iowa City.
