The community of Bakers Settlement was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing on Easter Sunday, March 24th, of one of its most respected citizens, John Edmund Meisner, at the age of 75 years and 8 days. The community of Bakers Settlement was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing on Easter Sunday, March 24th, of one of its most respected citizens, John Edmund Meisner, at the age of 75 years and 8 days. Born at Eastern Point, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Meisner, he moved to Bakers Settlement at the age of nine and was a resident of this place ever since. He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbour, and appeals for assistance were never disregarded as he was always ready to help by word or deed those who were in trouble. He was honest and upright in all his dealings and a great lover of home and family. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 27th, at 2 p.m. Rev. Mr. Monk, pastor of the Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member, was the officiating clergyman. The hymns sung were "Rock of Ages,"and "Nearer, My God to Thee," both favourites of the deceased. The pall bearers were Archie Aulenback, Purdy Bollivar, Gordon Bollivar, and Ernest Getson. Left to mourn their great loss are a sorrowing wife, formerly Miss Sarah Alberta Fancy, daughter of the late Fred and Emiline Fancy of Bakers Settlement; three sons, Archie, Newcombville; Leland, Laconia; Ivan, at home; a daughter, Violet, Mrs. Archie Wentzell, also at home; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Lavina, Mrs. Bennett Dares, Lunenburg; Georgeina, Mrs. Israel Young, Lilydale; Elizabeth, Mrs. Morton Frauzel, Bakers Settlement; one brother, Albert, Bakers Settlement. Another brother, Levi, predeceased him less than a month ago, having been killed in a tragic accident in the woods. Death our dearest ties can sever, Take our loved ones from our side; Bear them from our homes forever, O'er the dark, cold river's tide. In that happy land we'll meet them With those loved and gone before; And again with joy we'll greet them, There, where parting is no more. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
