Description	:	John Elmer Starrett, 75, retired farmer and long-time resident of Jasper county, died Monday morning at 8:30 a.m., at his home, 309 East Second Street South. Mr. Starrett, who had been in failing health for several years, was taken ill three weeks ago with influenza and bronchitis. Heart complications resulted in his death. Interment will be in Our Silent City cemetery, at Kellogg. Mr. Starrett, son of Daniel C. and Lucinda (Edgington) Starrett, was born March 27, 1862, in Adams county, Ohio. He was one of a family of eight children, four of whom survive. He came with his parents to Jasper county, Ia., when a child and grew to manhood on the farm, on which the family settled five miles east of Newton. Marriage Forty-five years ago he was united in marriage to Hattie A. Jacobs and to this union three children were born. A son died in infancy and Mrs. Starrett died in November 1907. Mr. Starrett moved from a farm seven miles southeast of town to Newton in 1916, but continued to engage in active farming until he was forced to retire five years ago by a serious illness. He was a member of the Pleasant View Methodist Episcopal church, southeast of Newton. Surviving Relatives Surviving relatives include his daughter, Myrtle Esther, who made her home with him; a son, Clifton Elmer of Newton, and a grandson, John Parsons Starrett, 6, to whom he was devoted. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Margaret Starrett Bird of San Diego, Cal., who is visiting in Newton at the present time; and three brothers, Aaron E. Starrett and William M. Starrett, both of Newton, and Clem Starrett of Driggs, Idaho. Beside his wife and son, Mr. Starrett was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Starrett, who died in San Diego, Cal., this spring, and two brothers, Franklyn P.
