Description	:	At his residence one and a quarter miles west of Unadilla, on March 30, 1897, at 5:15 a.m., Mr. John Emerson Currah, departed this life after several months of very painful illness of a rheumatic or neuralgic nature, aged 69-years, 7-months and 19-days, leaving a family of a wife and nine children, (five sons and four daughters), to mourn his loss. Mr. Currah was born at Wierd Dale, County of Durham, England, August 11, 1827, and during his early life pursued the avocation of a lead miner. In 1853 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Ann Bell, with whom in June of the same year he emigrated to America, locating near Darlington, Wisconsin, where for a period of 23 years he resided, engaging in farming in the summer time and lead mining in the winter. In November 1876, accompanied by his wife and nine children, he again turned his face westward and emigrated by wagon to the then new state of Nebraska, locating near Elmwood, in Cass County, where he resided for three and one-half years. In March 1880, he purchased the 80-acre farm, his present home, where he has resided for the past 17 years. Mr. Currah was a man, whom to know was but to love and respect, and with whom to be permitted to associate as neighbor or friend was a great privilege. He was a man of high character, of kind and noble impulse, of broad charity and of great hospitality. He was honest, upright and courteous. His kind manner won the respect, admiration and esteem of all, and his loss will be greatly felt and sincerely mourned by all who knew or were permitted to associate with him.
