Description	:	John E. "Bud" Rodgers, 72, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, died in the afternoon on Friday, at his home. John was born in Kitchel, Indiana, on September 27, 1934 to Bill and Esther Rodgers. After graduating from Kitchel High School, he served with the United States Army in Greenland as a radar specialist. John later returned home to work on the family farm, then became an engineer for the B&O (now CSX) Railroad. He retired from CSX after more than 20 years of service, and was known for his humorous, colorful stories of farm life and the railroad.... Read More	John E. "Bud" Rodgers, 72, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, died in the afternoon on Friday, at his home. John was born in Kitchel, Indiana, on September 27, 1934 to Bill and Esther Rodgers. After graduating from Kitchel High School, he served with the United States Army in Greenland as a radar specialist. John later returned home to work on the family farm, then became an engineer for the B&O (now CSX) Railroad. He retired from CSX after more than 20 years of service, and was known for his humorous, colorful stories of farm life and the railroad. John was a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and AMVETS of Hamilton, Ohio. His favorite pastimes included watching NASCAR and other auto racing. He also loved dogs and cats, enjoyed riding horses, and excelled at history and geography. John was raised in the Four-Mile Church of the Brethren, and remained a lifelong member. Survivors include his wife: Carolyn T. Meurer Rodgers, whom he married on October 5, 1985; a son: Michael Rodgers of Xenia, OH; a daughter: Debra Rodgers of Muncie; stepchildren: Elizabeth and Dr. Rodney Kratz of Seattle, WA, and Neal and Slawa Bruder of Indianapolis; brothers: Robert and Daniel Rodgers; sister: Janet Banning; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; and a son: Guy E. Rodgers. Funeral services will be conducted at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Indiana, at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with Reverend Karen Burnard of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Oxford officiating. Interment will be in College Corner Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dearborn County.
