He worked as a railroad crossing guard for many years and was one of the last manual gate operators before the railroad changed to automatic. He was a member of the North Raynham Congregational Church where he served as a deacon, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the North Raynham Congregational Church where he served as a deacon, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher. He also became a member of The Lutheran Church of the Way where he served as an elder. He will also be remembered for always being seen sweeping and cleaning the center of East Bridgewater. He met Margaret Ann as a penpal through a railroad enthusiast magazine in March of 1964. She was raising her four children in Iowa while he was in East Bridgewater working for the railroad. In 1967, he went to Iowa and married Margaret. They moved to East Bridgewater, and he adopted her children. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and May Hacker (Gurney); wife of 52 years, Margaret A Hacker (Shadle); son, Mark Hacker; grandson, Patrick; and brothers, William Hacker and Robert Hacker. Surviving are his children, Ricky Hacker and his wife, Nancy of East Bridgewater, Larry Hacker and his wife, Cathy of Rumney, NH, Mindy Perreault and her husband, Harold of Lakeville; daughter-in-law, Maureen Decker and her husband, Kurt of Florida; grandchildren, Kimberly, Kylene, Kelsey, Evan, Bethany, Kristen, Steven, Tiffany, and Meghan; sixteen great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Miles and her husband, Howard (deceased) of West Bridgewater.
