Read More	Provided by KENTILP1 on 1 Jun 2012: Oct. 10, 1890 Cascade Pioneer: John Faber died at the residence of his son Nicholas in Srping Valley, on Saturday, Sept 27, 1890 The deceased was born in the town of Kanich, parish of Remich, Luxemburg, in the year 1824. He came to the U. S. in 1846, and located at Cascade, Iowa. In 1847 he was married to Miss Catherine May [her second husband], sister of Mr. Francis May, and there was born to them two sons and three daughters who survive him. Mr. Faber was among the very first of the Germans who settled at Cascade or in its vicinity, having been a resident for 44 years. He was a successful farmer and acquired a handsome competency, which some years ago he distributed equally among his children. Some four years ago he had the misfortune to fall from a wagon and suffered severe injury to his back from which he never recovered. He bore his suffering with patience and astonishing cheerfulness. He was a bright and intelligent man. He had held several local offices of trust and always acquitted himself creditably. He also had been entrusted with the affairs of large estates, which he handled honestly and profitably for the heirs thereof. In fact John Faber was a kind-hearted man, a good neighbor and friend and withal a consistent christian. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning, Sept. 31st (sic), at St. Mary's Church, the Fev. Father F. X. Feurerstein officiating. The obsequies were largely attended.
