Description	:	Son of Jasper & Rebecca Durham James; widower of Josephine "Josie" Chambers James. Mr. James died as a result of a fire at his home in Liberty, SC, at 304 Mills Avenue, formerly the home of M.A. Boggs and built in 1900. Fire Chief Larry Porter initially saw the fire from a hilltop on Highway 123 as he drove from Easley to Liberty. He raced to the home and found it filled with smoke and flames. Mr. James died as a result of a fire at his home in Liberty, SC, at 304 Mills Avenue, formerly the home of M.A. Boggs and built in 1900. He had been a resident of Liberty for 61 years and was retired from textile work. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jack Posey of Liberty; one grandchild; two brothers, Tom James of Liberty and Walker James of Seneca; and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Merck of Easley, Mrs. Mollie Hawkins and Mrs. Essie Shelton, both of Greenville. Funeral services: Sunday, November 25, 1962, Eastside Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. T.M. Hudgens, Rev. Paul Hayes, and Rev. Mina Lee Davis. Burial: West View Cemetery, Liberty. Pallbearers: Gene Gantt, Ansel James, Louie Moore, James Fleming, W.T. James, and Frank Medlock. Honorary escort: Members of the Men's Bible Class of Eastside Baptist Church as well as many of the leading citizens of Liberty, SC. As was still the custom of the day, his body was returned to the family home for visitation until the time of the funeral; his lay in state at the home of his daughter.
