Description	:	Obituary from scrapbook at Cedar County Historical Museum. John Finefield was born in Montreal, Canada in 1817, and died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. L. Lyle, in Tipton, Feb. 10. 1897, aged 79 years and 3 months. He was married to Mary M. King, of Aurora, N. Y., Jan. 28, 1837. She died a little over 32 years ago. He was the father of a large family, of whom four daughters and three sons survive. He was married again to Amelia Overmeyer in 1866. King, of Aurora, N. Y., Jan. 28, 1837. She died a little over 32 years ago. He was the father of a large family, of whom four daughters and three sons survive. He was married again to Amelia Overmeyer in 1866. Mr. Finefield was converted when young and was a member of the Mt. Zion church. His life is said to have been that of an exemplary Christian. The loss of his hearing several years ago deprived him of church privileges almost entirely, but he was always an earnest student of his Bible, and urged and encouraged others to be faithful to their public and private religious duties, and to appreciate their privileges while they had opportunity. He moved to Ohio in 1837, and to Rochester, this county, in 1838. Here he has lived 54 years, and there inside the wife and mother so long gone before, all that is mortal of the dear father is laid to rest. Our father died at close of day, As evening twilight hastened on, He closed his eyes and lips like unto one, "Who draws the draperies of his couch about him, And lies down to pleasant dreams." With ineffiable smile of sweetness, As meeting dear ones gone before, And with farewell look-he could not speak, He too passed o'er; "And with the morn, those angel faces smile. Which he had loved long since and lost awhile." Beautiful twilight, set of sun, Beautiful goal with race well won, Beautiful rest with work well done, Beautiful graves where grasses creep, Where brown leaves fall and drifts lie deep On worn our hands. Oh, beautiful sleep! We desire to express our thanks to those who so kindly aided us during the sickness and death of our father. MR. AND MRS. Wm. LYLE, SISTERS AND BROTHERS.
