Whereas a member of this camp and a worthy comrade has been called from the scenes of his earthly career since our last annual meeting and Whereas it becomes meet and proper that some evidence of our esteem for him and our sorrow and regret be for him and our sorrow and regret be made manifest by some token expressive of that sorrow and regret. Now therefore be it Resolved that in the death of our late comrade John Ford this camp has sustained a genuine loss; we will miss but ever remember and appreciate his kind and gentle manner and fellowship and cherish and renew the memory of his kindly acts as comrade and friend. Nor shall we ever forget his argent and patriotic attachment to this camp and its object and to the members thereof or to falter in bestowing that meed of praise so worthily won by him in the devoted and patriotic service rendered to him country. Be it further Resolved that a blank page in the minutes of this camp be suitable dedicated to his memory and that these resolutions be published in the newspapers and that a copy thereof be sent to his sorrowing widow. Comrade John Ford at the age of fifteen years enlisted in the company of Capt J Harleston Read afterwards Company A of the 21st South Carolina Regiment of Infantry commanded by Col R F Graham and began a soldiers active service on James and Morris Islands and was in the bloody siege of Battery Wagner. His command being transferred to Virginia the then theater of war became a part of Hagood's Brigade of Longstreet's Corps of the army of Northern Va. Comrade Ford was several times wounded but seriously in June 1864 when he was thrown up from the ground on which he stood by the explosion of a shell from the enemy's gun and was thought to be dead; but careful nursing in the hospital restored him and he soon reported for duty again only to meet a worse fate however for on Aug 21 1864 while his brigade being surrounded by the enemy was cutting its way through the federal lines Serg Ford fell from the effects of a grapeshot which shattered his leg and it had to be amputated. He survived the operation but the event closed the career of the young solider and maimed him for life.
