Description	:	John was the son of Jeremiah Gibbs and Elizabeth Ford. They emigrated to New York from England in the late 1840s. The family eventually settled in Delaware County, Iowa. John was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a resident of Delaware County, Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private on 18 Dec 1861 at the age of 18 years. He enlisted with Co B 4th Iowa Cavalry on 25 Dec 1861. He was discharged and re-enlisted as a veteran on 18 Dec 1863. John mustered out with his company on 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia. John settled in Dixon County, Nebraska, where he became a prosperous farmer, owning over 600 acres of land. He served on the board of supervisors from 1887-1888. John died on Christmas Day in 1925 at the age of 81 years 9 months.
