Mr. and Mrs. John Crowley were Perry township homesteaders. The former, a charter member of St. Mary Magdalen's Catholic Church here, was born in McHenry County, IL, November 15, 1850. He grew to manhood in his native state and in 1876 came to Dakota territory, filing on a homestead in Perry township, two miles east of Lennox. Mrs. Crowley was born at Cox Creek, IA., November 18, 1860. She was reared in the Hawkeye state and in 1878 came with her parents to Dakota Territory and homesteaded north of Chancellor. Her maiden name was Bridget Brazzell. The couple was married January 21, 1882 and they continued their residence on the Perry township homestead until 1920 when they moved to Sioux Falls. They remained there until their deaths. Ten children were born to this union, namely: Clem, Emmett, Mrs. G. R. Clark, Mrs. E. M. Prill, Mrs. H. A. (Mable) Vreyens, Kathryn, Mrs. Paul C. (Avaline) Jones, Mrs. R. A. (Adeline) Devitt, and two others who passed away in infancy. Mr. Crowley succumbed December 29, 1924. Mrs. Crowley passed away July 14, 1939. She had been affiliated with St. Joseph Cathedral and St. Michaels School society at Sioux Falls.
