Read More	US ARMY VETERAN MADIGAN ARMY HOSPITAL -John Francis Hebert- John Francis Hebert, 86, of Normandy Park, WA, son of Jack and Grace Hebert and loving husband of Joan Elizabeth Hebert, passed away on February 6, 2015 in Seattle. John was born on October 5th, 1928 in Bellingham. He grew up in Sedro Woolley, where his dad was the Superintendent of Skagit Steel and also the Fire Chief. As a family, they spent a great deal of time together, particularly during the summer at their second home at Juniper Beach on Camano Island. John attended all his school years in Sedro Woolley. He walked several miles to school each day...with no shoes on...up hill...both ways...in 5 feet of snow...while picking strawberries along the way, so his family wouldn't starve, or at least that's what he told us. He graduated from Sedro Woolley High School in 1946. After leaving Sedro Woolley, John earned degrees in Biology and Pharmacy from Gonzaga and UW. He served in the US Army in the 1950s, based out of Madigan Army Hospital. After completing his higher education and serving his country, John began his career as a pharmacist and entrepreneur. He founded Manhattan Drug in Normandy Park in 1958, building and running a successful business until his retirement in 2004. Manhattan Drug served, not only as the quintessential drug store, but also as a community gathering place. Even if they didn't need anything from the pharmacy, friends and neighbors alike would drop by the store to visit with John. He always had a big smile and a fresh brewed pot of coffee on hand for visitors. Christmas was also a special time at the drug store, where John always ensured Santa Claus would come by for a visit and free pictures with all the children in the community. John also built a successful manufacturing enterprise, produc-ing fire-fighting equipment. Hebert Hose Clamp was definitely a family business, with all of his children working in the manufacturing process as they grew up. John was a kind man, who always gave more in this life than he took. He could regularly be found volunteering at community events, including countless swim meets where he would serve as timer and judge. John served the community in both the Elks and Rotary Clubs for many years, including serving as the President of the Rotary Club. He also served on the faculty of the UW, School of Pharmacy for many years, teaching pharmacy practice to generations of new pharmacists. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan Elizabeth of 43 years. He is survived by his 10 children ~ John (Kathy), Elizabeth (Paul), Kathleen (Mike), Peter (Colette), Joe (Beth), Mary (Gus), Jim (Rhonda), Grace (Greg), Jeanne (Brian) & Karl (Kathryn), 19 grandchildren ~ Kenneth (Brianna), Megan (Aush), Christopher (Melissa), Emily (Dylan), Jack (Nori), James, Lauren, Nicholas, Brianna, Taylor, Lina, Monica, Brooke, Erin, Caroline, Hailey, Sofia, Olivia & Alexandra, and 5 great-grandchildren ~ Aidan, Owen, Xavier, Caleb & Simon. Dad, thank you for being a shining example of how to live, love, and laugh. The world is a better place because you were here. We love you and miss you. Godspeed. Funeral Services will be held at St Francis of Assisi Parish, 15246 21st Avenue SW, Burien, WA 98166 at 11:00 a.m., Thursday February 12, 2015.
