Description	:	John Francis Wescott, age 73, of Yankton, South Dakota, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 23, 2013, at his home in Yankton. Funeral services are at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by the Yankton Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Wintz & Ray Funeral Homein charge of arrangements. John was born December 8, 1939, in Deadwood, South Dakota to George and Angela (DeBilzan) Wescott. He grew up in Deadwood and attended St. Ambrose Catholic School and graduated from Deadwood High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He later re-enlisted in the United States Navy and joined the Sea-Bee's where he served another tour in Vietnam. He married Judith "Judy" Pond on October 23, 1970, in Deadwood and continued his Navy career until retiring in 1983. During his Navy career he lived in: Illinois, Rhode Island, Mississippi, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After retiring from the Navy, John attended Springfield College where he graduated with a degree in diesel mechanics. They moved to Yankton, South Dakota in 1979, and John started working as a mechanic. He first worked for Vanderhule's Moving and Storage then Cimpl's and later Gershner Oil until retiring in 2002. Survivors include his son, Greg (Nanci) Wescott of Harrisburg, South Dakota; daughter, Kimberly Beene of Vermillion, South Dakota; five granddaughters; two great grandsons; two sisters: Jadene Wescott of Broomfield, Colorado and Joyce (Martin) Shawler of Creston, Iowa; brother Joel "Poncho" Wescott of Deadwood; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy on September 30, 2012.
