Description	:	John Franklin Halsey was born August 12, 1840, in Sussex county, New York. When eight years old, he moved to Ohio, where he lived until he was twenty-six years of age. In 1861 he enlisted in Company E, 123rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry. He received his discharge in 1864, after three years of service in the Civil War. On September 13, 1867, he was married to Rosanna C. Read More	John Franklin Halsey was born August 12, 1840, in Sussex county, New York. When eight years old, he moved to Ohio, where he lived until he was twenty-six years of age. In 1861 he enlisted in Company E, 123rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry. He received his discharge in 1864, after three years of service in the Civil War. On September 13, 1867, he was married to Rosanna C. Bates of Wyandotte county, Ohio, where they made their home for three years, moving from there to Jasper county, Missouri. After living in Missouri four hears, Mr. Halsey and wife returned to Ohio for a short time, then came to Custer county, Nebraska, which was their home until two years ago, when they came to Fairmont and purchased the home they occupied at the time of his death. They spent the winter with a grandson in Custer county, and had just recently returned to Fairmont. They had been getting settled and Mr. Halsey was making plans for the summer's work about his home, when he died suddenly at five p.m. Monday, April 9. Mr. Halsey had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for over fifty years, but being a newcomer to Fairmont, had not transferred his letter here. He is survived by his wodw and five children, Mrs. Willis Marsh, Sargent; John Edward Halsey , Wellfleet; Mrs. Etta Jones, Lake Charles, Louisiana; Charles Halsey, Cisco, Arkansas; and Mrs. Maude Kidd, Chillicothe, Illinois. Three children preceded the father to the Better Land: Willie, the second child, died in infancy, when the family resided in Missouri; Nellie, aged sixteen and Frankie, aged twelve, died of diphtheria and were buried the same day, while the family was visiting in Wright county, Missouri in 1894. Mr. Halsey is also survived by an aged brother, George Halsey, and two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Emptage and Mrs. Eliza Dorsan and several nieces and nephews, all living in Wyandotte county, Ohio. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at two p.m., Rev. J.P. Yost of Grace Methodist church officiating. Interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery. Those present at the funeral from out of town were, Mrs. E. Marsh, Sargent; Mrs. Etta Jones, Lake Charles, Louisiana; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Halsey and two sons and Ray Nitengale of Wellfleet.
