HILLIARD AT CENTRAL CITY Central City, Feb. 3 (Special to The Telegram)-- Funeral services for John Franklin Hilliard, 78, resident of Merrick county since 1920, and a former resident of Platte county, who died Friday morning, Jan. 26, after a year's illness, were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Solt Funeral home here, with Rev. Montzingo in charge. Mrs. Warren Riggs and L.A. Erickson sang "Going Down the Valley," "In the Garden," and "The Eastern Gate." Burial was made in the Pierce Chapel cemetery. The pallbearers were Al Abbott, P.E. Marquis, Walter Rose, August Roumpt, Harvey Brumbaugh and Jule Wilder. Those from out-of-town to attend the last rites were his son, George W. Hilliard of Columbus, now employed as cook in a VCC camp at Minatare; Mrs. George W. Hilliard and son, Herbert, and Buck Drum of Columbus. He was born July 14, 1861, in North Carolina, the son of James and Martha Hilliard. In 1878 he was married to Miss Louisa Maston in Tennessee, and they to Nebraska to make their home in 1891, locating in Platte county. In 1920 they moved to a farm in Merrick county near Central City. Mrs. Hilliard died there Dec. 5, 1920. In 1922 he was married to Kittie Monroe at Bladen, Neb., and she died died in November, 1927. In 1929 he was married to Ida Edwards at Fullerton. Besides his wife and son, George, W., he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Mary Stoll of Leverett, Wyo., and Mrs. Martha Bruen of Central City; one sister, Mrs. M.D. Truelove of Omaha; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
