Description	:	1826: John Fraser and wife, Barbara Cameron sailed from Inverness in a schooner, taking 3 months to cross to Nova Scotia, Canada. 1840; John Fraser bought 200 acres at Roseneath, Alnwick Twp, Ont. He farmed and drove stage from Roseneath to Coburg. 1851; John, wife and first six children moved to Saugeen Twp, by way of Owen Sound. They first settled to farm in Saugeen Township on Lot 21 E.S.R. They had five more children in Saugeen. 1854, Dec 16, John Fraser took land in Elderslie Twp., Lot 34, Con A. Both farms being on the Elora Road at the hamlet of Dumblane At Southampton the government held the historic land sale. Settlers received deeds for lands on which they had been living as squatters. The first to take up land legally in Elderlie was John Fraser who acquired Lot 34, Con A. At the end of the sale not a single lot in Elderslie was left unclaimed. 1857 July 3, John Fraser was postmaster in Dunblane, and resigned that position 30 June 1872, almost 15 years. The Dunblane Post Office opened 1 Feb 1856, with William Wallace as Postmaster. It was located on the west side of the Saugeen Road at the south edge of Lot 21. It closed 31 May 1921.
