About ten months ago Mr. Vetter was confined to his room with a painful sore foot. Later on, the trouble developed into senile gangrene .... Mr. Vetter has resided in Holton for many years .... John Frederick Edward Vetter was born in Germany, Nov. 29, 1835. He came with his parents to America when he was 13 years of age. The family settled near Beaver Dam, Wisc. In the year 1859 he came to Kansas, and located on a homestead near Lawrence. He was married in the year 1863 to Miss Mathilda Peterson. To them were born five children, two of whom died in infancy. Those surviving him are as follows: Mrs. C. F. Hurrel, of Circleville, and Mrs. Clara Moseman and Edward Vetter, Jr., of Holton. He is also survived by his widow, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One grandson, Hancher Vetter, is a member of the justly famous Marine band, which is part of Holton’s contribution to the cause of world democracy ... a member of good standing of the Odd Fellows lodge ... member of the First Presbyterian church of this city.
