Description	:	Haney--At his residence, one half mile south of Seward, on Thursday, July 14, 1887, of lung trouble, John F. Haney, aged 68 years, 10 months and 23 days. John Frederick Haney was born in Switzerland August 20, 1818. His parents came to America when he was a babe, and settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where they both died when John was six years old. Deceased lived in Berks county until he was 23 years old, when he came west as far as Tippecanoe county, Indiana, where he was married to Catherine Foust, February 6, 1845. John Frederick Haney was born in Switzerland August 20, 1818. His parents came to America when he was a babe, and settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where they both died when John was six years old. Deceased lived in Berks county until he was 23 years old, when he came west as far as Tippecanoe county, Indiana, where he was married to Catherine Foust, February 6, 1845. He removed from there to Jones county, Iowa in 1857, where he remained until 1872, when he came to Seward county. He served three years as a private in Co. G 31st Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and contracted disease of the lungs while in the service of his country, from which he never recovered. He leaves his aged wife, who is 62 years old, and five boys and two girls to mourn his death. Uncle John was a consistent member of the Baptist church, also of Seward Post No.3, G.A.R., and he was interred in the north cemetery by the Post.
