John was born on November 20, 1936 at home in Old Town, Maine to Doris (Fogarty) Dumont, a homemaker, and Camille Dumont, a construction worker. John was born on November 20, 1936 at home in Old Town, Maine to Doris (Fogarty) Dumont, a homemaker, and Camille Dumont, a construction worker. He was the fourth of seven children; his siblings included Robert, Louis, Emma, Sonny, Jim, and Dottie. He was known as "Jackie" throughout his childhood. He attended a one-room school house up to grade two, Pea Cove School in Pea Cove, which is part of Old Town, Maine. He attended Great Works School in Great Works, also part of Old Town, Maine from grade 3-6. He attended Helen Hunt Junior High for grades 7-9 in Old Town, Maine. Upon encouragement and great need of his family, he had to quit school to help work on the family farm and log in the woods at the tender age of 14. John retired in August of 2004 to Cape Girardeau, Missouri with his then companion, Bette Bell, to the Chateau Girardeau, a retirement community. On January 1, 1988 he married his soulmate, Anne (Stratton) Dumont in Kauai. They spent many wonderful years together in Hawaii until her passing in 1995. He is loved by his step-son Bobby and his wife Mutsumi and their children Bun, Sophia, and Will; and a step-daughter Kathy Torr and her son, Nick and his wife Lisa, and their children Juliana and Alexandria. He is survived by his children: son Carl Dumont and his wife Darcy of Columbia, Maine; son Kevin Dumont and wife Carmen of San Francisco, California; daughter Tammy Dumont Fisher and her husband Jim of Sabattus, Maine; daughter Tasha Dumont Purington and her husband Chris of Hickam AFB, Hawaii. He is survived by his grandchildren: Stephanie Colson; Maggie and Jack (his namesake) Dumont; Zack, Sabrina and Gabriella Fisher; Ashley, Megan, Lisa, and Emily Purington. He is survived by his siblings: brothers Ovid "Sonny" Dumont and his wife Joanne of Howland, Maine; James "Jimmy" Dumont and his wife Donna of Old Town, Maine; foster sister Donna Perry of Florida; and his sister and best friend Emma O'Brien and her husband Ed of Meriden, Connecticut. John is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews and many more extended family members. He was especially close with his nephew Rick Walker. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert and Louis Dumont; parents Camille and Doris Dumont; little sister Doris "Dottie" Cox; his soulmate Anne (Stratton) Dumont; and his daughter Lisa Dumont Colson. Committal of ashes will be held at noon on Saturday, July 4th at the Alton Cemetery. John was a man who was passionate about his family. He loved to have family gathered to create memories by playing, eating and telling stories. He was known for his "can do" spirit. John was born Nov. 20, 1936, at home in Old Town, Maine, to Doris Fogarty and Camille Dumont. During his lifetime he resided in Mexico, Maine; Honolulu; and Cape Girardeau. He used his keen ability to lead others and organize projects to spend 19 years as a resident manager of luxury condominiums in Honolulu. John retired in August 2004 to Cape Girardeau with his then-companion, Bette Bell, to Chateau Girardeau, a retirement community. He was immediately sought after to join the Residents' Council. He created the White Hat Society, an offshoot of the well-known Red Hat Society. He designed and built many wooden projects, such as an intricate poker table and butterfly house for the Chateau, and many toys and puzzles for his "grands." He was a member of the local Rotary and helped out with the local Boy Scouts Soap Box Derby each year. He volunteered in the ICU at Southeast Missouri Hospital every week as a tribute to his late daughter, Lisa Dumont Colson. He is survived and forever loved by his children, Carl Dumont and wife Darcy of Columbia, Maine, Kevin Dumont and wife Carmen of San Francisco, Tammy Dumont Fisher and husband Jim of Sabattus, Maine, and Tasha Dumont Purington and husband Chris of Hickam AFB, Hawaii. He is survived and always admired by his grandchildren who he endearingly called his "grands," Stephanie Colson; Maggie and Jack (his namesake) Dumont; Zack, Sabrina and Gabriella Fisher; Ashley, Megan, Lisa and Emily Purington. He is survived and cherished by his siblings, brothers Ovid "Sonny" Dumont and James "Jimmy" Dumont; foster sister, Donna Perry; and his sister and best friend, Emma O'Brien. Those waiting on the shores of heaven to welcome him home were his brothers, Robert and Louis Dumont; parents, Camille and Doris Dumont; little sister, Doris "Dottie" Cox; his wife, Anne Stratton Dumont; and his daughter, Lisa Dumont Colson. His favorite black lab, Babe, was also waiting. John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home in Meriden, Conn., was in charge of arrangements.
