The memorial service for Gehring, 86, McIntosh County was held on September 28 at First Baptist Church in McIntosh. The community sang "How great thou are" and "God wants to take care of you". Lloyd Thompson sang "God must be a cowboy" and Irene deVonne Schuh sang "Hey the pearly gates will open". John was buried at the McIntosh Cemetary. He was accompanied by the horse-drawn carriage of John Hoven, accompanied by the family and his children: Charlotte Moser, Joyce Frazier, Dennis Gehring, Donna Mott, Curtis Gehring and Dwight Gehring brought to his last resting place. Pallbearers were: J.D. Frazier, Chuck Frazier, Douglas Moser, Chad Moser, Jonathan Gehring, Kristopher Mott, Joel Moser, Matthew Gehring, Jacob Baumeister, Nickolas Mott, Craig Gehring, Timothy Gehring, Casey Mott and Shane Gehring. Honorable pallbearers were members and residents of the "Selby Good Samaration Center": Rick Alister, Dr. J.D. Collins, PA Tom Jurek and Pastor Richard Mayforth. John Gehring was the first of 11 children of Gottfried Gehring and his wife Christina (Schmeirer) Gehring, born on April 8, 1915 in Linton / North Dakota. The family lived in Linton until the age of two or three. Then you moved to Aberdeen / South Dakota. Here you stayed until John graduated from the 6th grade at Lincoln School. They then moved to McIntosh / South Dakota where they acquired a homestead on Ike McGee Farm, southeast of McIntosh. John attended the Grant Rural School near his parents' home and graduated from 8th grade. Later, his family moved to a farm south of the Hanson School. John lived with Joe Pudwill's family during the time he attended McIntosh High School. Shortly after the school started, suddenly his mother died. He left school and took care of his younger siblings. My short time before moving on to Ault / Coloardo. Here John worked as a laborer on a farm. They later moved to Yakima, Washington, where John worked in a cannery. In 1941, they came back to South Dakota and lived on the old son, Fred and Christina Gehring helping Grant Young move to Great Falls, Montana in 1939. They assisted him in the harvest and then returned to South Dakota. After his return, John works at the Axtel Schafranch southeast of McIntosh. On his return from Montana he met Lydia Moser. They fell in love and married on October 27, 1940 in the First Baptist Church to McIntosh. John and Lydia moved to Kansas, where they spent the winter. Here you lived at DeVelde Farm, south of McIntosh. Here they operated until they bought the old Ike McGee Ranch, southeast of McIntosh. This remained until 1998, when he moved to the Selby Good Samaritan Center. Here he remained until his death on September 24, 2001. He leaves his wife Lydia from McIntosh, South Dakota; his daughters Charlotte (Don) Moser from McLaughlin, South Dakota, Joyce (David) Frazier from Woodbury, Tennessee, Donna (Don) Mott from Morgan Hill, California; his sons Dennis Gehring from McIntosh, South Dakota, Curtis (Annette) Gehring from McIntosh, South Dakota, Dwight (Rita) Gehring from Arapaho / Colorado; 19 grandchildren Deborah, Douglas and Chad Moser, John David and Chuck Frazier, Lottie Rogers Dana, Denise and Jaycee Gehring; Kristopher Nickolas and Casey Mott, Angie Johnson, Heather, Craig and Timothy Gehring, Jonah, Matthew and Shane Gehring; 15 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and a great-great-great-great-grandchild. His brothers Christian Gehring from George / Washington and William Gehring from Golden / Colorado. His sisters Christina Sieler from McIntosh, Esther Bennett from Yuma / Arizona and Elsie Pechan from Minneapolis / Minnesota, as well as his daughter-in-law Leola Gehring from El Center / California. He rest in peace. He follows his parents; Brothers Fred, Frank and Jack, as well as his sisters, Kathie Vahlsholtz and Magdalina Orman to death.
