Pepper, Bruce Gifford, Sam Schoen, Robert Schumann and John Flack, Jr. Mr. Gifford died February 27, Spencer Municipal Hospital He was born April 30, 1891, to John and Esther Harrington Gifford at Bigelow, Minnesota On December 25, 1922, he was married to Margjorie Cavanaugh at Dickens Through a childhood accident, Mr. Gifford lost his sight at the age of seven. He received his education at the Iowa School for the Blind at Vinton from 1899 to 1911 and was Salutatorian of his class. At the school in Vinton, he took up the profession of piano tuning in 1905 and completed the course in 1909. He also studied violin, piano and voice at Vinton and moved with parents after graduation to Eastman, Wisconsin. He later studied voice at Marion, Iowa under Miss B. Laura Bunting, then went to Chicago where he studied voice under Frank Thomas Baird. He studied violin eight years in Vinton two years under Professor Edward Schroeder of Dubuque from 1918 to 1922. While studying music from 1917 to 1923, he worked for Reiners Music House in Dubuque After marriage, he lived in Bellevue, Iowa, where he worked for the Johnson Piano Factory. He moved to Clay County, August 1, 1923 and settled in Spencer where he made piano tuning his profession He was a member of the IOOF Lodge of Spencer and the Grand Lodge of Iowa He is survived by a sister , Pearl Gifford Wendland of Dickens Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife in 1969 and three brothers Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements Spencer Morning Herald, Spencer, Clay County, Iowa March 7, 1976
