Morse was born in Muscatine, August 21, 1853, the oldest child belonging to the family of Alvah Morse. In infancy he came to Oakland township with his parents and there his boyhood and the after years of his life were spent. He died at his temporary home in this place, Thursday, September 17, 1902, begin about 49 years of age. In 1874, October 29, he was married to miss Matilda Forbes who with six of the seven children born to them, live to mourn a husband's and a father's loss. Of the six living children, Harry is the only son, the oldest of the family. The others are Essie, Grace, Alta, Neva and Margaret. The oldest is under 21 years of age, the youngest a little over four. Mr. Morse had been ailing for some time but his friends had no uneasiness about him until a few weeks since when his physician pronounced his disease incurable. He made a hurried trip to Chicago when the same diagnosis was given him. He returned to face the inevitable which he did unflinchingly. His funeral occurred Sunday, very short services being held at the home here. Regular services were conducted at 11 o'clock at Christian chapel, Oakland and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near by. Rev. F. M. Orr conducted the exercises which were listened to by an immense throng of old-time neighbors and friends. He was buried by the odd Fellows, of which organization he was a member. he also belonged to A.O.U.W. and the F.A.A. associations. The pall bearers were George L. Van Auken; Wm. Dawson, James A. Harmon, J.J. Carr, Cord McDaniel and Thos. Carey. The choir from the Reformed church of this place attended and took part in the exercises. He was a man of standing in his community. A firm friend, kind husband and father, good neighbor and an intelligent and upright citizen; one who will be greatly missed by the entire community in which he lived a life time.
