Mr. Rowan was born in Pennsylvania, came to Iowa in 1855, served three years in Co. I 25th Regiment. John G. Rowan died this morning at his home on West Main St. in the Rookery Building. Mr. Rowan had been seriously ill with a complication of Brights Disease and heart trouble since about the first of January, but had not been in very good health for the past four years. Mr. Rowan had been suffering a great deal and his death has been expected to occur at almost any time in the past few days. John G. Rowan was born Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1837, in Freeport, Armstrong County, PA. He was the oldest son of Mr. & Mrs. John Rowan and was one of a family of six (NOTE: should be seven with another half brother) children, five of whom are yet living. Andrew Melvin Rowan died in 1891. The living are William, a half brother in Colorado; Joseph, of Stratford, Texas; Thomas of Denver; Theodore W. of Ainsworth; Nancy (Rowan) Euwer of Cincinnati, IA., and R.J. Rowan of Ainsworth. The deceased was reared in Pennsylvania and in 1855 with his parents and the rest of the family went by boat down the Ohio River to Cairo and then up the Mississippi to Port Louisa, IA, which was about ten miles from Grandview, IA. They drove to Crawfordsville and settled on a farm east of there, but only stayed a year. In 1856 the family moved to Ainsworth where John G. Rowan was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Foliart in 1861. Aug. 14, 1862, he enlisted in a regiment that went from Crawfordsville to the war, Company I, 25th Iowa, and served three years in the army in defense of his country. Three daughters were born to Mr. & Mrs. Rowan; Mrs. J.W. Dunham of this city, Mrs. Frank Day of Albion, Nebr., and Mrs. George McConahey of Spokane, Wash., all of whom are living. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. W.R. Sawhill and Rev. W.C. Allen, Sunday afternoon from the residence at 2:00. The internment will be in the Ainsworth Cemetery."
