Surviving is his wife, Mary, 3 children, Jack (Linda) Gray, Olin, Linda (Ron) Sonner, Batavia, Ill., Donna (Tom) Leiting, Eldridge and a son-in-law, Stan Reid, Fort Collins, Colorado, 8 grandchildren, Ryan and Bruce Gray, John and David Sonner, Teresa Alexander and Jason Reid, Laura and Katie Leiting, 2 great-grandchildren, Samantha and Gabe Alexander. He was preceded in death by his Parents, a daughter Barbara Reid, and 2 brothers, Robert and Donald. John King Gray was born December 3, 1913 at Anamosa, Iowa. He was the son of John and Helen Gardner, Gray. Don attended the Bunker Hill country school and graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1932. John worked on the farm for several years and in 1935 went to work at the lumber yard in Amber. He moved to the Center Junction Lumber yard in 1936. John K. Gray and Mary Eggers were married June 22, 1937 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Parsonage. The couple made their home in Center Junction. John managed the lumber yard in Center Junction until 1961 when he began operating Grays Cashway Lumber in Olin. He later sold the business to Shomont Lumber. From 1984 until 1986 he returned to the business in Olin and managed it for Sun Lumber. He then went to work for Sutherland Lumber in Cedar Rapids from 1986 until 1990 and then went to work at Western Auto in Cedar Rapids until 1999. John was a 67 year member of the Center Junction Presbyterian Church and was a past Elder and Treasurer. For 50 years he was a board member and President of the Center Junction Phone Company. He served as the Mayor of Center Junction and on the Fire Department and Park Board. He was also a Madison Township Trustee and Poll Watcher. He built the Ice House in Center Junction and sold and delivered ice. John was also a member of the Olin Masonic Lodge, and had also belonged to the El Kahir Shrine and the Jones County Shrine. He was a past President of the Olin Lions Club and the Area Lumbermans Liars Club.
