Franklin is a well known and progressive agriculturist of Fremont township, living upon the farm upon which he was born and which was entered by his grandfather from the government in 1855. During the entire period of his active life he has been connected with agricultural interests of this locality and has made many substantial contributions to development and progress. Franklin is a well known and progressive agriculturist of Fremont township, living upon the farm upon which he was born and which was entered by his grandfather from the government in 1855. During the entire period of his active life he has been connected with agricultural interests of this locality and has made many substantial contributions to development and progress. His birth occurred on the 2d of November, 1869, and he is a son of James C. Franklin and a grandson of John and Jane Franklin, a record of whom appears elsewhere in this work. The grandfather entered land in Bremer county from the government in 1855 and after his death his son, James C. Franklin, father of the subject of this review, succeeded to the property. He was twice married, wedding first Miss Eliza Howell, who died in 1883. The father spent his last days in Tripoli, where he lived retired until his death. J.H. Franklin acquired his education in the district schools of Fremont township and after his father retired from active life assumed charge of part of the homestead, which he has since operated. He has two hundred and forty-seven and a half acres of land, eighty of which constitute the original tract entered by his grandfather. Upon the property he has made extensive improvements, erecting a modern house and substantial barns and outbuildings. His success has been largely the result of his unremitting industry, and his farm reflects everywhere his careful supervision and practical labor. Mr. Franklin married Miss Amanda Zwanzijar, who was born in Bremer county and as they have no children of their own, they adopted a son of Mrs. Franklin's sister, Lynford Franklin, who is thirteen years of age.
