Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 19 Mar 1863 p3: "DIED---In Baton Rouge, La., Feb. 12 inst. past [slight discrepancy], John H. Gould, aged 19 years 4 months, member of the 22d Maine Regiment Company I." "It is not clear if John H. Gould was buried in Louisiana or Maine, although it is probable that the stone at Parsons Cemetery is a Cenotaph. There is a headstone for him at the Baton Rouge National Cemetery, Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, USA; Plot: Section 10, Site 592; MEMORIAL ID #89048095. According to the "U.S., Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865", he died at the Regimental Hospital in Baton Rouge on 12 Feb 1863 of "Typho Mal Fever" (Typho-Malaria Fever). The U.S., Burial Registers, Military Posts and National Cemeteries, 1862-1960, Baton Rouge National Cemetery, Louisianna, lists "John H Gould, Pvt., Co. I, 22 Me Inf, died Feby 12 1863, buried in Section 10, Number 40" (line 577 in Register). The U.S. National Cemetery Interment Control Form, 1928-1962 (#61002803575) lists him as interred in the Baton Rouge National Cemetery, Louisiana, but does not list a date of interment."
