Van Wyk, 84. of Pella, who died September 8, 1999, at the Pella Regional Health Center, were held September 11 at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church in Peoria, Iowa with Pastor Ronald Bouwkamp officiating. Music was provided by organist Marge Fynaardt. Casket bearers were his nephews: Gary Bokhoven, Larry Vander Molen, Alvin Ozinga, Jerry Veenstra, and Verlan and Dennis Van Wyk. Interment was in Peoria Cemetery. John H. Van Wyk, the son of Lambert and Bertha (Vos) Van Wyk, was born August 24, 1915in Prairie Township, Mahaska County, Iowa. He attended the Garden Hall Country School through the 8th grade, and started farming right across the road from where he was born. He had worked for Jake Vander Hart doing silo maintenance and repair for many years. On September 19, 1940, he married Grace Veenstra near Peoria. They had one child. Grace passed away on April 21, 1997. John was a member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church, where he had served as an elder He was a former member of the Peoria Christian School Board. Surviving is his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Carrol Bandstra of New Sharon; a grandson, Calvin Bandstra of Lcighton, a granddaughter, Caryn and her husband, Scott Rempe, of Pella, four great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives. Harry and Cathryn Van Wyk and Lester and Leona Van Wyk all of New Sharon, three sisters. Nellie and her husband, Jake Vander Molen, Gretta Veenstra, and Ila Ozinga, all of Pella, two sisters in-law Dee Bokhoven of New Sharon and Jeanetta and her husband, Henry DeJong of Pella; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Lambert and Cornelia Veenstra of Taintor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Wilma Bokhoven Memorials may be given for The Bible League.
