Description	:	Member of the Honey Creek Baptist Church on April 11, 1868 MIAMI UNION ~ May 16, 1912 John Harker Downey is dead at his home in Addison. He had been in poor health for some time, and for the past three days he had declined rapidly. He was the oldest member of a family of seven children of Mr and Mrs Absolum Downey, and was born on a farm south of St Paris. He had been in poor health for some time, and for the past three days he had declined rapidly. He was the oldest member of a family of seven children of Mr and Mrs Absolum Downey, and was born on a farm south of St Paris. The deceased was about 79 and had lived nearly all his life in Mad River and Jackson townships. His wife has been dead for a number of years and he made his home with his two daughters, Mrs Emma Merritt and Miss Eva Downey. He is survived by one son, John Downey of Casstown. He also leaves his brother in Urbana and another brother, AW Downey, living northwest of St Paris. Mr Downey was a veteran of the civil war, serving in Company A, Second OVI. He belonged to the GAR post at Addison. The funeral was held at Honey Creek church Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock and was in charge of Rev Matthews of St Paris. Civil war comrades of the deceased acted as pallbearers, and the burial was made at Honeycreek cemetery. Inscription: Co A - 2 Ohio Inf
