Description	:	John Harper Brent Jr., 85, of Chase City, died May 26, 2005. Born Oct. 23, 1919, he was the son of John Harper Brent Sr. and Mary Scruggs Brent. He spent his childhood years in Hampton and later in Heathsville. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gilberte Jeanne Mourice Brent. Mr. Brent was a graduate of VPI in 1940 at age 20. Read More	John Harper Brent Jr., 85, of Chase City, died May 26, 2005. Born Oct. 23, 1919, he was the son of John Harper Brent Sr. and Mary Scruggs Brent. He spent his childhood years in Hampton and later in Heathsville. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gilberte Jeanne Mourice Brent. Mr. Brent was a graduate of VPI in 1940 at age 20. He received a commission and entered the Army in 1941 where he rose to the rank of Captain. He served in England, France, Belgium (Battle of the Bulge) and Germany during World War II. He was in Chamonix, France in charge of an Army rest and recuperation center after the ware, when he met Jean. They married in 1947, eventually settling in Englewood Cliffs, N. J. Mr. Brent was an electrical engineer who specialized in batteries for commercial, industrial and military applications. He helped develop special batteries for the first space probes. He married Eyleen Gill Edwards in 1983 and they lived in Englewood Cliff, N. J. until he retired in 1984 from Douglas Engineering, after which they moved to Chase City. He was a member of the Chase City Lions Club and is survived by his wife, Eyleen; his sister, Barbara Brent Minor of Ooltewah, Tenn.; a nephew, Manning Brent of Santibel, Fla.; nieces, Kacee Honey of Lottsburg; Alison Weld Minor of Ooltewah, Tenn.; Patience Griffith of Verona, N. J.; a stepson, Bibb Edwards of Laurinburg, N. C. and his wife, Anita; a stepdaughter, Sue Terminella of Richmond and, her husband, Francis; three step-grandchildren, Malindi Edwards of Hickory, N. C., Kevin Terminella and his wife, Heather, of Richmond and Adam Terminella of Arlington. Graveside services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Brent Family Cemetery in Heathsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chase City Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 81, Chase City, VA 23924 or Alzheimers Association/Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 120 South Hill Ave., South Hill, VA 23970. Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, was in charge of arrangements South Hill Enterprise - June 1, 2005
