Description	:	obituary April 17, 1930 "The Sterling Sun" John Frederick Hartog was born Sept. 8, 1848 in Tichelwerk, East Fresia, Germany. In 1871 he was married to Katharine Ruter. To this happy union ten children were born,3 of whom died in infancy. In 1888 he with his family came to America. He settled near Sterling. To this happy union ten children were born,3 of whom died in infancy. In 1888 he with his family came to America. He settled near Sterling. The next year they moved to Gothenburg and then to Colorado. In 1892 he returned to Sterling and farmed. Eleven years ago he and his wife retired snd settled in Sterling. In 1921 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Four years ago his wife died. This was a heavy loss for him. Two weeks ago he became suddenly ill but with medical aid he was again able to be up. Last Wednesday shortly after two o'clock in the afternoon, he suffered a stroke and immediately died. He reached the age of 81 years, 7 months and one day. Seven children are left to mourn his death: Harm of Pickrell, Anna Harms of Filley, Mrs.Rieck Sinnen of Cook, Mrs. William Chuchill of Sterling, Mrs Carl Schmidt of Mayberry, Mrs. Clark Salamon of Vesta, and Mrs. Henry DeBuhr of Sterling. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 P.M. from the St John's Lutheran Church. Rev. Moehl officiating. The breaved relatives have the sympathy of the community in the loss of their father. Cards of Thanks We wish to sincerely thank all the neighbors and friends who were so kind to our father during his illness. We wish to thank the choir for the songs and those who sent flowers.
