He and his wife, Nancy, belonged to the Congregational Church at Montville Center. He was in Capt. West's Company in the War of 1812. He had four children by his second wife: 1. John Hastings, Jr., b. 25 February 1827; m. Cynthia Dart. 2. Charlotte, b. August 1828; m. Jared Starr Rogers. 3. Samuel Fox, b. 17 June 1831; m. Harriet Lester. 4. William, b. April 1834; m. Eliza Sillman.
