Description	:	John was born on June 24, 1881 at Sarodfar, Russia. He was the son of Jacob and Katharina Hauf. He came to the United States at the age of 7 years with his parents, and settled at Tripp, South Dakota. After living for a time at Tripp, the Hauf family moved to Naper, Nebraska. On Apr. 7, 1904, John was united in Holy Matrimony by Pastor Schnelder to Dora Stahlecker, who was also from Naper. Read More	John was born on June 24, 1881 at Sarodfar, Russia. He was the son of Jacob and Katharina Hauf. He came to the United States at the age of 7 years with his parents, and settled at Tripp, South Dakota. After living for a time at Tripp, the Hauf family moved to Naper, Nebraska. On Apr. 7, 1904, John was united in Holy Matrimony by Pastor Schnelder to Dora Stahlecker, who was also from Naper. Their wedding was remembered well because a blizzard hit that day and the wedding party and all their guests were stormed in at the John Stahlecker farm home, some even sleeping in the barn while the blizzard raged on for three days and three nights. That same year, he and his new wife moved and homesteaded four miles south and a quarter mile west of Dallas, South Dakota. They lived in the horse barn while they built the sod house, and lived in the sod house for four or five years before they built the three room frame house. They lived south of Dallas until 1941. They then bought a farm north of Lucas, South Dakota. John had his hound dog and enjoyed hunting with his neighbors, John Berg and John Schweigert. John had a steam engine and did neighborhood threshing for many years. John and Dora were neighbors to the Jake Schmidt family and the two families spent many good times together. Sunday afternoon ball games were neighborhod entertainment. They played ball in the Vawser pasture. John was very active in his church. He was also a member of the school board south of Dallas for 28 years. Those who are left to mourn his passing are: his beloved wife, Dora; six daughters, Anna (Arthur) Wille, Clara (Ben) Miller, Martha (Harry) Deering, Frieda (Alfred) Bettcher, Edna (John) Mitchell, Christine (John) Sears; six sons, Arthur, Samuel, Walter, Adolph, Alva and Norman Hauf; 29 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and Otto Hauf; three sisters, Freida (Joseph) Sipma, Mary Ann (Gottlob) Blakkolb and Anna (Stevens) Heese. John was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Katherina Hauf; two sisters, Amelia (George) Baker and Elizabeth (Herman) Emme; and his infant son, Helmet. ****************************
