Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. He died February 5, 2007 at the Ashley Nursing Home. John Henke, son of Simon and Maria (Schneider) Henke was born January 12, 1920 on the family homestead in McIntosh County, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. John Henke, son of Simon and Maria (Schneider) Henke was born January 12, 1920 on the family homestead in McIntosh County, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He worked on the family farm. He later bought his own farm. He was united in marriage to Alvina Schaffer in Leola, SD. They made their home on his farm. He later joined his father and his brother Lenhard in their farming operation where he was responsible for the dairy operation. After his father's death, his mother, brother and he retired and moved into Ashley. For enjoyment, John loved to sit in front of his picture window and watch the people with all their activities. He also liked to attend auctions. Survivors include one daughter, Elsie Anderson of Hudson, Wisconsin, two sons, Theodore Henke of Watertown and Delbert Henke of Beloit, Wisconsin, one sister, Hilda Wolff of Ashley, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His parents, one infant son, David, one son, Richard, two brothers, Edwin and Lenhard and one sister, Martha Kempf preceded him in death. Casketbearers will be Chris Johannsen, Lisa Johannsen, DeLane Henke, Marvin Schneider, Walter Wolff and Jeff David. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
