Read More	John Barringer Jr. Obituary John Henry "Poppy" Barringer Jr. SALISBURY - John Henry "Poppy" Barringer Jr., 97, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born June 8, 1917, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late John Henry Barringer Sr. and Nannie Long Barringer. He was married to the late Lillian Odell Bangle. John was a 1935 graduate of Granite Quarry High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, John served in World War II in Company A, 160th Engineer Combat Battalion under General Patton. He was a Carpenter by trade and well known for his woodworking abilities. He started his career with Pinkston Brothers Construction and building homes in the Salisbury area for Carol Overton. In 1959 he relocated to Merritt Island, Fla., where he built housing developments and worked as a carpenter for Pan American Airlines and Trans World Airlines at Cape Canaveral Space Center. Returning to Salisbury in 1966 he worked with A.L. Jarrell Construction and later retired while working with D.C. Linn of Landis. He was known for building Waffle House Restaurants in North Carolina. He was a member of Christiana Lutheran Church and a life-member of Lutheran Men in Mission. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lillian Bangle Barringer; brother George Shaffer Barringer Sr.; and sister Virginia Barringer Miller. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, John Henry Barringer III (Kathy); daughter Linda Barringer Taylor (Larry); sisters Catherine B. Mahaley and Sarah Ann B. Bame; grandsons John Henry "Jay" Barringer IV, Joel C. Taylor (Jennifer), Jason A. Sparger (Susanne), Michael L. Corl (Nikki); granddaughters Malea B. Jones, Allison B. Wilson (Gray), Amanda T. Casper (Stephen), Kari S. Curry (Tim); great-grandchildren Chase and Lauren Jones, Molly, Ella and Graham Wilson, Nathan and Luke Taylor, Caleb Casper, Emma and Jackson Sparger, Karigan and Emily Curry, Ava and Alli Corl. Visitation: The visitation will be Monday, Feb. 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Powles Funeral Home. Other times, families will receive guests at their homes. Funeral: The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2 p.m. at Christiana Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Carl Haynes and the Rev. T.C. Plexico. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and NC National Guard. The family would like to give their love, praise and thanks to the staff of Autumn Care of Salisbury for all their love and excellent care given to "Poppy" while he was there.
