Sauceman assisted by Rev. W. H. Welton. The burial took place in the Groves Cemetery near Graham. A large number of his friends from Graham, his former home, and his late home in Skidmore, bore testimony to the esteem in which he was held as a citizen, by their presence. Following is a short biography of the life of the deceased, read at the funeral service by Rev. Sauceman. John H. Bender was born in Pennsylvania, May 12, 1834. At the age of two years he moved to Indiana where he grew to manhood. In 1851 he came to Missouri where the remainder of his life was spent. In January 1860 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Mayhugh and to this union four children were born, all of whom with the mother preceded him to the great beyond. On Februrary 3, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Viranna Martin. To this union four children were born, two of whom are deceased. Those living are, Mrs. J. N. Geyer and Mrs. C. H. Geyer. Brother Bender was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1864 and he lived a faithful member of the church militant until 9:15 p.m. October 20, 1911, when he answered the summons and joined the church triumphant which is without spot or blemish before the throne of God."
