THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 23, 1922, page 1. "John Borts was born near Lima, Indiana, January 10, 1850. In 1856 his parents moved to Jasper county, Iowa, where near Greencastle, the boy, John, grew to manhood. On September 15, 1872, he was united in marriage to Mary C. Fuller. They made their home in Clear Creek township, Jasper county, until 1913, when they removed to Mingo and after that to Truro. This union was blessed with seven children, one of whom, Kitty, died in infancy. The surviving children are: Edward F., of Maxwell; Mrs. Frank Miller, of St. Charles, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Couch and Mrs. Edward Hayes, both of Spooner, Wis., Mrs. Chas. Skinner, of Collins, Iowa, and Mrs. M. G. Atwood, of Des Moines. Also thirty grand-children and twelve great-grand-children and one brother, William, of Valeria. Mr. Borts died February 14, 1922, after an illness of five months. The burial took place at the Ashton chapel, where his wife, who died October 8, 1920, was buried on the 10th day of that month. Rev. J. W. Everds preached the sermon from the words of Christ: "For your life is more than meat." A ladies quartet, consisting of the three sister, Mrs. C. E. Cooper, Mrs. M. E. Smith and Mrs. O. W. Parker, and Miss Rose John sang, while Mrs. N. A. Pearson presided at the piano. Card of Thanks. We wish to thank the many friends for their kindness and assistance during our recent bereavement in the death of our beloved father. Also our appreciation to those who assisted in the singing.
