From Nevada Evening Journal April 8, 1943 (page 3) Funeral Services For John Bovey Were Held Wednesday Funeral services for the later John Henry Bovey, 87, who passed away at his home in Nevada Monday morning, were held from the Lilly Funeral Home, Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Mrs. Norman Dobson was at the organ accompanying when Mrs. Ansel Freeland sang, "Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus, The Very Thought of Thee." The pall bearers were Ed Shalley, M. M. McLaughlin, E. J. Williams, John Borgen, George H. Kellogg and A. E. Reedholm. The following obituary was read at the funeral service. "John Henry Bovey, son of David R. and Elizabeth Statler Bovey, was born in Hagerstown, Washington county, Maryland, on August 2, 1855, and passed away at his home in Nevada, Iowa on the morning of April 5, 1943, at the age of 87 years, 8 months, 3 days. He came to Iowa in the spring of 1876, and labored as a farm hand until the autumn of 1897 when he was united in marriage with Martha Susan Haynes, of Boone, Iowa, on Nov. 25, of that year. They made their home in Boone for a number of years, during which time he was employed by the C. and N. W. R. R. company. About 1900 they moved to Solon Springs, Wis. After spending a year there they returned to Boone. Later they went to Nebraska where they lived until 1917 when they came to Nevada since which time the home has been here. "Mrs. Bovey died Sept. 12, 1939 and Mr. Bovey has remained in his home up to the time of his death. "He united with the Methodist church in Boone soon after his marriage and retained his membership in the denomination to the time of his death. His health failed last November and he was not able to live alone. His niece, Mrs. Dora McKibben, has cared for him and the home since early in December. He spent much time reading his Bible and was a firm believer in God, and prayed often. "He had no children but leaves a number of nieces and nephews in Boone and Story counties among whom are Wm. T. Haynes and Mrs. Dora McKibben of Nevada, Mrs. Buelah Oglevie and Edgar Haynes of Ames and Arnold Haynes of Boone. Other nieces and nephews Mrs. Susie Tubb of Chicago, Mrs. Rena Aylsworth of Casper, Wyo., Mrs. Garnet Moss, Riverton, Wyo., Mrs. Gertie Davis and Mrs. Della Maley of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Edna Estle of California, Levi C. Overman of Crookston, Nebr., Mrs. Ida G. Stenberg of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. May Stone of Lakoma Park, Md., Dr. John A. Pines of Orlando, Fla., Raymond Haynes in Indiana and Mrs. Goldie Haynes-Batman in Ohio. There are also nieces and nephews in Maryland. Mr. Bovey is the last of seven children." He was buried beside his wife in the Nevada cemetery.
