His last illness was caused by a stroke of paralysis. His daughter, Miss Dena, of Grand Rapids, who is a trained nurse, was at his bedside. He was 69 years of age. Funeral services were held at Grand Rapids, but a daughter, Miss Anna, is accompanying the body to Alton. Services will be held at the home a daughter, Mrs. Tony Duistermars, west of Carnes and burial will be made at Nassau cemetery. Mr. Aalders came to Sioux county when 18 years of age, about 1873. He married Miss Anna Sorgdrager, who died in 1901. The surviving children are: Mrs. Rev. Henry John DeVries (Katie Henrietta Aalders), of Ontario, Ca., Dr. H.J. Aalder, of Calistoga, Ca., Miss Anna Aalders, of Nevada, Mo., John, Jr., of Alton, Andrew J. Aalders, of Los Angeles, Ca., Miss Dena Aalders, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Tony Duistermars, of Orange City. The wife and mother died in 1901 and ten years later, Mr. Aalders moved to Orange City, wedding Miss Cynthia Bloom. Four years later the family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. There were six children born to this second union, all of whom reside in Michigan." John Henry Aalders, aka: Gerrit Jan Hendrik Aalders. Second wife, Cynthia Bloom, aka: Sina Klasina Bloem. Married 1908 in Amsterdam. Parents listed on LDS/Family Search as Cornelius Bloem and Sine Klasine Woudema (Wiersma?). Both Gerrit J.H. Aalders, age 48, and his wife, Klasina Aalders, age 35, were on "New York, U.S. Arriving Passengers & Crew List: ship " Rijndam," departing from Roterdam, on March 14, 1908. Five of the six children of Gerrit Jan Hendrik Aalders and Sine Klasine Bloem were: 1. Cynthia b. March 10, 1909, Michigan (married Louis Veenstra) 2. Bernice Aalders b. June 3, 1910, Michigan (married Unknown Kuiper) 3. Cornelius J. Aalders b. July 4, 1911, Michigan 4. Tryntje "Theresa" Aalders b. March 21, 1916, Michigan 5. William Aalders b. July 6, 1919, Michigan Anna Sorgdrager b. October 1861 Holland d. February 26 1901 Sioux county, Iowa. Parents were probably Andrew P. Sorgdrafter (1836-1910) and Kyke "Kate" Cornelis Hutjus/Hek? ( 1837-1921). Obituary of Kate Sorgdrager , "The Alton Democrat," states she and her husband Andrew Sorgdrager had 8 children, 7 of which survived her: John, Mrs. John (Martha Sorgdrager) Van Nimwegen, Cornelius, Dorris, Andrew, and Mary.
