John Henry Green, the son of Joseph Cornelius and Lois Olive (Dixon) Green, was born two miles south of Marquette on Sept. 19, 1925, and passed away in Aurora on Nov. 21, 2018, at the age of 93. John’s mother died of pneumonia when he was 18 months old. His father’s half-brothers and half-sister, Charles, Alfred and Anna Green, took him into their home southwest of Marquette, where he resided until 1984. John attended District 89, west of Marquette, and graduated from Marquette High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1945 and, after six months, was assigned to the U.S. Zone Constabulary in Occupied Germany through March 1947. John came to faith in Jesus Christ on Sept. 4, 1953, at his home, subsequently joining the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora. He taught Sunday school and led Bible studies for many years. On Jan. 29, 1955, he married Linnea Lea Ebert in Aurora. Daughter Paula was born in December 1955, and son David in June 1957. They continued to live on the farm until 1984, when they moved to Aurora. Linnea passed away on April 15, 1992. After working in the church office for a time, John became assistant director of the Plainsman Museum in Aurora. He thoroughly enjoyed his work there from 1987 through January of 2007. He was a member of Gideons Intl. and served his community on the Marquette School Board, Richland and Siloah Cemetery boards and the Hamilton County Historical Society. John was preceded in death by his parents; those who raised him, Charles, Alfred and Anna Green; his wife, Linnea; and a half-brother, Lee Green. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Paula (John) Hewen of Aurora; son, David (Denise) Green of Des Plaines, Ill.; granddaughter, Britney (Noe) Coliz of Rockford, Ill.; three grandsons, Ryan Green of Chicago, Ill., Bryce Hewen of Denver, Colo., and Gabriel Hewen of Lincoln; stepgranddaughter, Ashley Muller of Oslo, Norway; five great-grandchildren, Autumn and Jeremiah Green, Cristian Vigilio, Sebastian and Gabriel Coliz; sister-in-law, Jo (Darryl) Meyer of Albert Lea, Minn.; and other family and friends.
